Khartoum is the capital of the Republic of the Sudan. It is composed of Khartoum, North Khartoum and Omdurman. Its area is 1,010 km² and its population is around 640,000. The main industries of Khartoum are agriculture and husbandry. It is a distributing center of cotton and rice in Sudan. North Khartoum is an industrial zone with the country’s largest textile and ship-building factories as well as motor repair shop.
