Located in the northeast corner of the province of Buenos Aires, the city of San Nicolas sits on the banks of the Parana River and has a diverse landscape of canyons, swamps and islands. With a population of about 150,000, it is the fourth largest city in the province. Religious tourism, metallurgical industry and port services are the main industries. The transshipment volume of goods exceeds 6 million tons a year. Most of Argentina's imported fertilizers are transported through the port of San Nicolas.
