Perm is the capital of Perm Krai, located on the west side of the Ural Mountains. It covers an area of 780 km²and has a population of about 1 million. The city has been an important industrial city in Russia as well as the land and water transportation hub and educational and scientific research base in mid-west Russia since the 19^th century.
